1946

It all started in 1946, shortly after WW2. Maryland locals Harry Scaggs and Fred Howlin bought an old country store in Four Corners, Maryland and turned it into a restaurant and bar. Fred and Harry’s quickly became an institution to folks around the area and was sold in 2001.

1956

It was clear restaurants were his passion, so in 1956 Harry and his son Bill purchased Nailer’s, a 60-seat restaurant in Wheaton, Maryland. The father-son duo transformed it into the wildly successful Anchor Inn Seafood Restaurant - a 425-seat restaurant, bar and banquet facility that would later be taken over by Bill’s sons and nephew until it was sold in 2004.

1973

As the rest of Bill’s family inevitably became entwined in the business, they expanded in 1973 with the opening of the Stained Glass Pub in Glenmont, Maryland. The Pub, as it has become so fondly referred to, is a local sports bar known for its thin crust style pizza and unique sweet tomato sauce. The opening of The Pub was a family affair with Bill’s wife, Betty, and their children at the helm of its success. The Stained Glass Pub, now owned and run by Bill’s son Joe and his business partner, is still open and running today.

1981

With the other businesses humming along nicely, Bill and family recognized an opportunity in Rockville, Maryland in 1981 which lead to the opening of The Raindancer Restaurant and Lounge. Bill Jr. and Betty ran the upscale restaurant and later opened Tycoon’s Nightclub featuring top local bands. Bill Jr. relocated to South Florida in 1990 and Raindancer was sold in 1993.

1987

In 1987, the family built and opened The Cuckoo’s Nest Restaurant and Nightclub in the heart of Olney, Maryland. After a number of years, the second-story nightclub was converted into the Stained Glass Pub Too. Both of the restaurants and the nightclub were run by Bill’s children, Steve and Lorrie, until they were sold in 2006.

1990

Though the family sold the Maryland restaurants as they slowly migrated to South Florida, it opened an entirely new world of opportunity. Bill Jr. was the first of Bill’s children to move, opening Bimini Bay Cafe in 1990 which was located in West Palm Beach, Florida. He ran the business until retiring in 2002.

1997

The other three siblings discovered the landmark Two Georges Restaurant in Boynton Beach, Florida and purchased it in 1997. By 2004, Steve became the sole owner of the business and continues to run it today with his son Steve Jr.- the fourth generation - and the support of his wife, Diane.

2010

Steve Sr. purchased the famous Cove Restaurant in Deerfield Beach, Florida in 2010. He has since changed the name to Two Georges at The Cove and continues to make improvements to the food, structure, and atmosphere of the restaurant. It is still a family affair four generations later as all of Steve Sr.’s children and a number of nieces and nephews have spent time working at the Two Georges restaurants.
